Pepperdine Junior Alex Acker Declares For NBA Draft

Malibu, Calif. - After careful consideration, Pepperdine junior guard Alex Acker will declare for the 2005 NBA draft that will be held June 28, head coach Paul Westphal announced on Wednesday.

Acker, a 6-foo-t-5 guard from Compton, California, averaged 16.6 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.7 assists a contest in helping Pepperdine post a 17-14 record overall and tie for fifth place in the West Coast Conference (WCC) with a 6-8 mark.

Acker finished second on the team and sixth in the WCC in scoring as he contributed 16.6 points a contest en route to being named All-WCC and Mid-Major All-American by CollegeInsider.com. He was also second on the club and eighth in the conference with 6.5 rebounds a game and ranked third in the WCC in 3-point field goal percentage after connecting on 48.4 percent of his shots from behind the arc.

Acker, who led the Waves in scoring six times and topped the team in rebounding on 13 occasions, contributed 17.2 points and 5.2 rebounds in WCC play.

He concluded his career ranked No. 20 on Pepperdine's all-time scoring list with 1,273 points and No. 7 in steals with 133. In 88 career games, Acker averaged 14.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.5 steals a contest and totaled 70 double-digit scoring games, including a career-high 32 points at UC Irvine during the 2003-04 campaign.

Acker is scheduled to graduate later this month with an art degree.
