NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championships Kickoff on Thursday, November 18th
The NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championships will begin on Thursday, November 18th. The teams will be vying for the right to compete at the 2010 NCAA Men's College Cup December 10th and 12th in Santa Barbara, California, at Meredith Field at Harder Stadium.

The West Coast Conference Champion Santa Clara University men's soccer team drew Sacramento State University in first round play of the 2010 NCAA College Cup tournament. The match will be played at Sacramento State's Hornet Soccer Field on Thursday, November 18th at 2 p.m. PT. The winner will move on to face national No. 8 seed UCLA Sunday, November 21st at 5 p.m PT.

• Gonzaga ended their season with a 2-0 loss to West Coast Conference co-champion Santa Clara University Sunday at Buck Shaw Stadium.

• Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Ryan Caballero played the first half and redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Jeff Renslo the second half for the Bulldogs, each keeper making a pair of saves. Caballero's 91 saves this season tied him for second with Mike McCarthy on the single-season list and was also first in the WCC.

• The Bulldogs were strong on youth this season as four true freshmen each started nine or more matches and three of them had 13 or more starts each. Gonzaga also had a pair of redshirt freshmen start nearly every match, including Caballero who started 18 of 19 matches.

• Junior Collin Flynn won the scoring title for the Bulldogs with a team-leading four goals and an assist for nine points. Senior Philippe Garre paced the Bulldogs with five assists, which was third in the Conference.

• Second-half goals by sophomore David Ponce and junior Phil Da Silva lifted Loyola Marymount to a 2-0 win over visiting Saint Mary's on Friday afternoon at Sullivan Field. LMU then clinched a share of its first-ever West Coast Conference championship despite falling 1-0 to a late San Francisco goal in the regular season finale at Sullivan Field on Sunday.

• Senior Rafael Baca added two assists and the Lions held a 15-7, proving to be too much for the WCC's top defense on Friday. Baca finished the season ranked 24th in the nation with eight assists, which was also first in the WCC.

• LMU spent three weeks in the national rankings this season, peaking at #21 on October 26th. Their eight wins in WCC play matches the school record set in 2004 by the program.

• The Lions led the West Coast Conference in three major statistical categories this season: goals per game (1.65), assists per game (2.20) and points per game (5.50).

• Portland senior Jarad vanSchaik scored the game-winner in the 83rd minute as the Portland handed Santa Clara their first West Coast Conference loss with a 1-0 decision at Buck Shaw Stadium on Friday night.

• The blank slate allows Portland senior goalkeeper Austin Guerrero to become the all-time leader in shutouts during WCC contests. His 16 career shutouts against WCC foes are one better than former San Francisco goalkeeper Geremy Uhl.

• The Pilots would hold from there as they didn't allow a Broncos shot during the game's final seven minutes. Guerrero's .789 save percentage and six shutouts were both ranked second in the WCC this season.

• vanSchaik finished the season with a team-best eight goals and a team-high three game-winners. His eight goals were ranked second in the WCC, and his three game-winners were good for third place.

• Saint Mary's suffered a 2-0 loss to division-leading Loyola Marymount on Friday afternoon in Los Angeles. The Gaels then dropped their season-finale to San Diego on Sunday afternoon, 3-2.

• Junior goalkeeper Doug Herrick had a busy first-half on Friday against the Lions, recording seven of his 10 saves in the first 45 minutes. Herrick would finish the afternoon with 10 saves and allowed two scores. Herrick finished in the top 50 in the country in save percentage (.810) and saves per game (8.76).

• Redshirt senior Dylan Leslie scored a goal and added an assist on Sunday at San Diego. Leslie's goal pulled the Gaels even at 1-1 and he assisted on sophomore Jose Cabeza's goal to put SMC ahead shortly before halftime.

• Herrick led the WCC with an .810 save percentage and seven shutouts, and Leslie's eight points were tied for eighth in the WCC.

• Sophomore Patrick Wallen's one-on-one goal in overtime lifted San Diego to a 2-1 victory over San Francisco Friday night at Torero Stadium. On Sunday, Senior Nolan Chandler recorded his first career goal in the final game of the season while Wallen notched his fourth two-goal match of the season as the Toreros dropped Saint Mary's 3-2.

• The Toreros struck early against the Dons when senior Marcelo Carminatti found the back of the net in the sixth minute for his fifth goal of the season.

• Wallen lit up the second half for the Toreros against the Gaels with goals in the 54th minute and the game-winner less than a minute later for his 12th goal of the season, which ranked first in the WCC and tied for 10th in the nation.

• San Diego finished their 2010 campaign 9-7-3 overall and 6-4-2 in the West Coast Conference, good for fourth place.

• After dropping a 2-1 overtime match in San Diego on Friday, San Francisco ended the season on a high note by taking down WCC co-champion Loyola Marymount 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at Sullivan Field.

• Freshman Vegard Karlsen scored the equalizer in the 62nd minute against the Toreros on Friday, but the Dons ultimately dropped the match 2-1 in overtime on a Patrick Wallen game-winner in the 96th minute.

• Playing in his final match for San Francisco on Sunday, senior Bryan Burke netted the game-winner against LMU in the 87th minute for his second goal in three matches.

• Sophomore goalkeeper finished fourth in the Conference with a 3.20 saves per game average, and senior Bryan Burke finished tied for eighth with four assists this season.

• After seeing their 12-match unbeaten streak come to halt Friday night in a 1-0 loss to Portland, Santa Clara recovered to defeat Gonzaga 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Buck Shaw Stadium to claim a share of the conference championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

• Santa Clara closed out the season by going unbeaten in 13 of their final 14 matches. This will be Santa Clara's 19th NCAA tournament appearance and 11th WCC title, its first since 2007.

• Sophomore Erik Hurtado finished tied for fifth in the WCC with 14 total points and seventh with five goals. Teammate junior Mykell Bates finished close behind in ninth with four goals this season.

• The Broncos will travel to face Sacramento State in the first round of the 2010 NCAA College Cup at Hornet Soccer Field on Thursday at 1 p.m. PT. The winner will move on to face #8 UCLA Sunday, November 21st at 5 p.m.
