Men's Soccer 12/14/2018 12:50:00 PM SMCGaels.com MSOC | Cooper, Staff Named D1 Staff of the Year Gaels' head coach Adam Cooper and his assistants Josh Duffy and Charlie Campbell have been named United Soccer Coaches' Staff of the Year. KANSAS CITY — United Soccer Coaches announced their Staff of the Year awards Friday and selected Saint Mary's coaching staff as the men's Division I Staff of the Year after the Gaels' superb season. The award is the most prestigious honor head coach Adam Cooper and his staff, Josh Duffy and Charlie Campbell, have received this season. Cooper was named WCC Coach of the Year earlier this fall for the third time in his career while the trio were selected as United Soccer Coaches' West Region Staff of the Year. Cooper and his staff led the Gaels to a No. 4 national ranking this season and Saint Mary's finished the year as the only undefeated team in the nation (18-0-2). SMC advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to Stanford in penalty kicks in Moraga. Saint Mary's was projected to finish fourth in the WCC Preseason Poll but went 6-0-1 in conference en route to their second WCC Title ever, both coming under Cooper. Five different Gaels earned All-WCC First Team Honors while four more earned spots on the Second Team, Honorable Mention list, and All-Freshman Team. Goalkeeper Remi Prieur was named WCC Goalkeeper of the Year and Sebastian Schacht earned Freshman of the Year. In addition, Prieur and forward Jake Rudel became Saint Mary's first two All-Americans as both Gaels were selected to the Third Team. Prieur was among the nation's leaders in shutouts and save percentage while Rudel led the conference in goals and points.
