Gonzaga’s Chandler Smith Named WCC Player of the Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named its Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for December 3, 2018.
 
WEST COAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – CHANDLER SMITH, SR., G, GONZAGA
Smith helped the Zags to a perfect 2-0 week with wins over Colorado State and No. 8/7 Stanford. Smith’s best game was against the Cardinal, where she was 6-of-10 from the floor and 8-9 from the line with three boards and 20 points. Smith was crucial down the stretch for the Zags, netting a jumper with 13 seconds left to put Gonzaga up 76-71. Smith once more helped Gonzaga seal the win with an offensive rebound off a missed free throw, securing the ball and drawing the fouls with three seconds remaining. Smith went 2-of-2 to seal the 79-73 win in the Zags first win over a ranked opponent since Nov. 18, 2016. It also marked only the fifth time in program history the Zags have defeated a top 10 opponent.
 
On the week, Smith averaged 12.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.
