SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association announced today the 20 watch list candidates for the 2021 Katrina McClain Award. Pacific senior Brooklyn McDavid, a 2019-20 All-WCC First Team selection, earned a spot on the prestigious list for the second straight year.
Named after the two-time All-American and 1987 National Player of the Year, the annual award in its fourth year recognizes the top power forwards in women's NCAA Division I college basketball.
"From the University of Georgia to Team USA, Katrina McClain was a standout power forward," said John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Basketball Hall of Fame. "To be named to the McClain Award watch list is a tremendous honor and we're proud to recognize these tremendous student athletes. As we launch our fan voting component tomorrow, we encourage fans to cast their votes alongside our distinguished selection committee."
McDavid, a 6'1" native of Studio City, Calif, put together an impressive 2019-20 campaign after finishing ranked among the top 15 in the West Coast Conference in scoring (7th/14.8), rebounding (12th/5.7), field goal percentage (3rd/.508) and offensive rebounds (9th/2.3). Scoring in double figures in 24 of Pacific's 31 contests, she also notched two milestones by joining the program's 1,000-point club as well as becoming the seventh player in program history to reach 200 career offensive rebounds. Leading the Tigers by starting in 29 of these 31 contests last season, McDavid is poised to earn a spot on an All-WCC team for the third straight year in 2020-21.
"Brooklyn has quickly climbed the record books here at Pacific and has rightfully gained respect within the WCC," said head coach
Bradley Davis. "She is an exceptional athlete with a unique drive and is deserving of the national attention she's received over the last couple years. I absolutely love Brooklyn's work ethic as she has earned every bit of this recognition."
