SAN MATEO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named its University Credit Union Women’s Basketball Player and Freshman of the Week for November 30, 2020. This is the first weekly award for the 2020-21 season and the freshman of the week award is a new addition for this year.
 
UCU #WCCHOOPS PLAYER OF THE WEEK – SHAYLEE GONZALES, SO., G – BYU
Sophomore guard Shaylee Gonzales dropped a game-high 30 points on 11-of-14 shooting to lead the Cougars to a season-opening 67-51 win over LSU at the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout in Las Vegas on Friday. Gonzales, playing in her first game since the 2019 NCAA Tournament after missing last season with an ACL injury, made six-of-seven from three-point range and added four rebounds, three assists and three steals. The Gilbert, Arizona, native showed little sign of rust as she drained her first six shots and played the entire 40 minutes of the contest. Playing against Washington the following night on Saturday, Gonzales tallied five points and six rebounds in a 77-48 loss.

UCU #WCCHOOPS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK – FINAU TONGA, G – SAINT MARY’S
Freshman Finau Tonga posted strong stat lines for the Gaels in their two games this week in Phoenix. The redshirt freshman began the season with a six-point, 10-rebound effort in 18 minutes against VCU and followed it up with a team-best 16 point showing on 7-of-11 shooting against Stephen F. Austin. The forward leads the Gaels in field goal percentage at .526, is tied for second in points with 11.0 ppg, and is second in rebounding at 7.5 boards per contest.
