Santa Clara, San Diego Earn WCC Softball Weekly Honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Santa Clara first baseman Sammy Needham and San Diego sophomore pitcher Madison Earnshaw have been named the West Coast Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.

Needham slashed .692/.733/.923 with three doubles, two walks, four RBIs and five runs scored as she earns her first career honor. She had three multi-hit games, including three hits twice, with nine hits in 13 at-bats on the week. In the weekend's first game, an 8-4 win, she drove in three runs with two doubles.

Right-hander Earnshaw earned her first career no-hitter and the first for San Diego softball since 2016 in a 3-0 shutout against LIU on Saturday. The performance also marked Earnshaw's first win of the 2020 season. The sophomore dealt 74 pitches in seven innings of work, striking out two and only walking one. She faced 22 batters and induced 12 ground outs and six fly outs. For the week, Earnshaw pitched 10.2 innings with four strikeouts and a 1.32 ERA.
