SAN BRUNO, Calif. – San Francisco sophomore forward Leilah Vigil has been named the West Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
After another week of averaging a double-double, this time turning in her WCC-leading 13th and 14th double-doubles on the year, Vigil helped lead San Francisco to two road wins to end the regular season on a three-game winning streak.
Thursday, she scored a team-high 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while tying her career high with three 3-pointers as the Dons erased a seven-point deficit at Pacific to come from behind and win. She hit both her free throws with 47 seconds left to start a perfect 10-for-10 stretch for the Dons that iced the victory.
Saturday, she helped USF beat Saint Mary's for the first time in four years, and for the first time in five years in Moraga, by scoring 26 points - one shy of her career and season best - and pulled down another 10 rebounds. She went off in the second half as the Dons pulled away, going 7 for 10 from the floor with 15 points and seven rebounds after halftime.
For the week, Vigil averaged 21.5 points, 10 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.0 assists per game while shooting 51.5% from the floor, 50.0% from 3-point range and 83.3% from the free-throw line.
