SAN MATEO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named its University Credit Union Men’s Basketball Player and Freshman of the Week for January 18, 2021. 
 
UCU #WCCHOOPS PLAYER OF THE WEEK – COREY KISPERT, SR., F – GONZAGA
Senior forward Corey Kispert totaled 40 points in a pair of wins for unbeaten No. 1 Gonzaga during the week. He made 12 of his 24 shots from the field, including nine of 17 from behind-the-arc (52.9 percent). He also made all seven of his shots from the free-throw line. Against Pepperdine Thursday, the senior made six three-pointers and scored 23 points. He also grabbed eight rebounds. At Saint Mary’s Saturday, Kispert led GU with 17 points, making three shots from three-point range. 
 
Kispert leads the West Coast Conference scoring 20.93 points per game. He also tops the league making 3.14 threes per game, shooting a WCC-best 48.9 percent from behind-the-perimeter. The Edmonds, Wash., native, is third in the conference shooting 59.3 percent from the field, and 88.6 percent from the free-throw line.
 
Kispert earns weekly honors for the second time and is the fifth different Bulldog selected as the UCU WCC Player of the Week – through eight weeks.

UCU #WCCHOOPS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK – JALEN SUGGS, FR., G – GONZAGA
Freshman guard Jalen Suggs scored 32 points on 52 percent (13-of-25) shooting from the field to help keep the top-ranked Zags unbeaten. In Thursday’s win over Pepperdine, he made eight of his 13 shots from the field, scoring 18 points. He also dished out three assists and grabbed three rebounds. The freshman added 14 points in the Bulldogs’ victory at Saint Mary’s Saturday. Suggs leads the West Cost Conference in steals per game (2.42), and he made three steals during the week. He also made all five of his free-throws in the wins. Suggs is third in the conference averaging 4.67 assists per game and sixth making 53.7 percent from the field.
 
This is the fifth freshman of the week honor for Suggs so far this season and the sixth in eight weeks for the Bulldogs.
