Seeds Set for WCC Men’s Water Polo Tournament

No. 5 Pacific earns WCC regular season title and tournament's top seed

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Seeds for the 2024 West Coast Conference Men’s Water Polo Tournament are set. The WCC Tournament will take place this coming Friday through Sunday, Nov. 22-24, at Chris Kjeldsen Pool at the Douglass M. Eberhardt Aquatics Center on the campus of the University of the Pacific.
 
The tournament begins with three matches on Friday (Nov. 22), followed by two semifinal contests on Saturday (Nov. 23) and the championship match on Sunday (Nov. 24). All six games will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
 
Pacific, ranked fifth in the latest Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) national rankings, earned the No. 1 seed in the WCC Tournament after defeating Pepperdine, 14-8, on Saturday to complete the conference regular season 6-0 and earn the WCC regular season title. The Tigers are 18-1 overall with 15 wins over nationally ranked opponents. Their lone loss was against No. 5 Fordham, 17-13, on Oct. 25 in a match played at Santa Clara. Pacific has scored at least 10 goals in each of its contests this season.
 
Pepperdine, ranked ninth in the CWPA national poll, is the No. 2 seed with a 5-1 conference record. The Waves’ only blemish in the conference regular season was Saturday’s defeat at No. 5 Pacific. Pepperdine enters the tournament 20-7 overall with 10 wins over nationally ranked opponents.
 
San Jose State, the defending WCC Tournament champions, will be the No. 3 seed with a 4-2 conference mark. The Spartans are ranked No. 13 nationally with a 15-6 overall record, including nine wins over ranked teams. They enter the tournament on a three-game winning streak, including a 13-12 win over California Baptist this past Friday to secure the No. 3 seed.
 
The No. 4 seed is California Baptist. CBU was also the No. 4 seed in last year’s WCC Tournament, where it advanced to the championship match. The Lancers, who rank 16th in the latest CWPA poll, finished the conference slate 3-3. CBU posted a 20-12 overall mark during the regular season.
 
Santa Clara (No. 5), Air Force (No. 6) and LMU (No. 7) round out the conference tournament seedings. The Broncos posted a 2-4 conference mark, while Air Force recorded a 1-5 WCC record and LMU finished 0-6 in conference play.
