SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Week two of West Coast Conference action features a full slate of 10 league games, headlined by a nationally televised showdown in Spokane, as Oregon State visits Gonzaga on Saturday at 1 p.m. PT on ESPN2. Four teams boast unblemished conference records, led by Portland’s record-setting 13-0 start to the season overall. WCC games will be contested on Saturday (Dec. 28) and Monday (Dec. 30) this week.

Conference play was in full swing last week with four games each on Thursday and Saturday. Portland continues its record-setting start, opening its conference slate with two decisive wins. Saint Mary’s (2-0), San Francisco (1-0) and Washington State (1-0) are also undefeated in conference play. The Dons earned a 73-58 win over Gonzaga at home, snapping the Bulldogs’ 22-game conference winning streak.
Highlighting week two of the conference slate is a nationally televised matchup between Oregon State and Gonzaga in Spokane. GU will host OSU on Saturday at 1 p.m. PT on ESPN2. The last time the two teams met was on March 25, 2019, when Oregon State defeated Gonzaga, 76-70, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Portland defeated LMU on the road and Pacific at home, each by double digits, to remain undefeated at 13-0 – extending its best start in program history. The Pilots are one of eight remaining undefeated teams in the nation and just one of three with at least 13 wins. Portland is the only undefeated team that has won all of its games by double figures.
Senior Emme Shearer has moved into 10th all-time in scoring at Portland with 1,318 career points. Maisie Burnham is not far behind with 1,276 points. Shearer has scored in double figures in all but two games this season, while Burnham has scored in double figures in all but one game.
San Francisco enjoyed a 2-0 week with a 67-54 win over Arizona State and a 73-58 victory against Gonzaga. Debora dos Santos averaged 16.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks per game while shooting 55.6 percent from the field and 100 percent from three-point range to lead the Dons to the undefeated week, as she earned Credit Union 1 WCC Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors.
Kennedy Johnson led Saint Mary's to a 2-0 start in WCC play for the first time since 2014. Johnson hit a three in the final minute to force overtime and eventually earn the win over Santa Clara in its WCC opener. She finished that game with a season-high 25 points and nine rebounds. Johnson scored 11 of her 15 points in the fourth quarter in the win over LMU. She added seven rebounds and now averages 13.8 points per game – 10th in the WCC.
Gonzaga forward Yvonne Ejim is coming off a 29-point performance at San Diego, a season high and the second-most points she has scored in a game in her career. Ejim has scored 20-plus points nine times this season, including each of the last five games. She has also scored in double figures in 55-straight games. While Ejim continues to lead the team in scoring, freshman Allie Turner is second on the team at 13.6 points per game. With 39 total three-pointers, she leads the WCC and is tied for 15th nationally in three-pointers per game at 3.0. Turner also leads the WCC and is 30th in the nation in three-point percentage (43.8 percent).
Washington State moved from fifth to second in the nation in blocks per game, after tying the school single-game record with 14 rejections in a win against San Diego on Dec. 19. As a team, the Cougars average 7.2 per contest. Individually, Alex Covill is tied for 27th in the nation at 2.2 per game and Tara Wallack is tied for 30th at 2.0 per game. Wallack has 125 career blocks, which ranks sixth in school history. Covill, a sophomore, has 83 career blocks and is 11 from claiming 10th all-time in school history.
LMU’s Naudia Evans is averaging 13.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, and a nation's best 7.3 assists per game. Through two conference games, Evans has totaled 15 assists with seven against Portland and eight against Saint Mary's. Maya Hernandez continues to shine in her sophomore season, leading the team in scoring (13.9 ppg) and rebounding (7.0 rpg). Hernandez is ninth and fifth in the WCC in the respective categories. She joins Ejim from Gonzaga and Tara Wallack from Washington State as the only players ranked in the top 10 in both categories.
After scoring just 31 points in her first six games, Pepperdine freshman Chloe Sotell has scored in double figures in five-straight games, including 14 against Santa Clara, her first WCC game. She is averaging 16.2 points and has made 17-of-41 (41.5 percent) from three-point range during those five games. For the season, she leads the team with 23 three-pointers and 23 assists, and is second in scoring at 11.2 points per game.
San Diego's Lauren McCall has registered at least two steals in all but one game this season and has totaled three steals seven different times. With 2.5 steals per game, she is tied for fifth in the WCC. Kylie Horstmeyer continues to shoot high percentages both from the field (55.6) and the free-throw line (90.6) while leading the team in scoring at 11.8 points per game.
Pacific senior Anaya James had her best game of the season at Portland, totaling 15 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, and five steals. She is six assists away from becoming the second Tiger in program history to reach 500 career assists, two steals from moving into sixth place on the all-time steals list and 32 rebounds from her 500th career rebound. For the season, James is averaging 10.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 2.6 steals. Elizabeth Elliott (14.4 ppg) and Liz Smith (13.1) lead the team in scoring. Elliott recorded her 600th career rebound against Pacific.
Oregon State senior Catarina Ferreira earned a spot on the Maui Classic All-Tournament Team, averaging 22.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.0 steals. She secured a double-double with career highs of 26 points and 11 rebounds in the Beavers' win over Western Kentucky. Against Miami, she totaled 19 points. For the week, she hit six three-point field goals and made all 11 of her free-throw attempts.
Olivia Pollerd and Alana Goodchild provided the heroics to help Santa Clara earn a 70-69 win at Pepperdine. The Waves went on a 9-0 run to retake the lead with just 91 seconds left. With 22 seconds left, Goodchild drilled a three-pointer to make it 70-69. Pollerd then came up with a steal to run out the clock. Several Broncos notched career marks with Goodchild hitting four three-pointers, Malia Latu grabbing eight rebounds, and Hannah Rapp dishing out five assists.
