SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has announced its 2024-25 women's basketball conference schedule. With the addition of Oregon State and Washington State as affiliate members beginning this season, the WCC schedule expands to 20 games stretching over 11 weeks.
The Conference slate, which will continue to be contested on Thursdays and Saturdays, will begin on December 19, and will conclude on March 1. Each of the 11 weeks will feature five matchups, as the 11 programs vie for the conference regular season title and top seed in the 2025 Credit Union 1 WCC Basketball Championship.
The WCC enters a new chapter in 2024-25, expanding to 20 games with the addition of OSU and WSU as affiliate members. The Beavers will make their WCC debut at home against Pacific, while the Cougars will play their first WCC game at San Diego. Gonzaga, which completed the 2023-24 season a perfect 16-0 in conference play, will open its WCC slate at San Francisco.
The first of two games between last season’s regular season champion, Gonzaga, and Credit Union 1 WCC Basketball Championship winner, Portland, will take place at the Chiles Center in the Rose City on Thursday, Jan. 2. The rematch will take place in Spokane, Washington, two weeks later on Thursday, Jan. 16. Gonzaga and Santa Clara, the top two seeds in last season’s Credit Union 1 WCC Basketball Championship, will meet in Spokane, Washington, on Saturday, Jan. 4, and will close the regular season with a matchup in the Bay Area on Saturday, March 1.
For the 17th consecutive year, the Conference will host the Credit Union 1 WCC Basketball Championship at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. This season’s event will be held March 6-11, 2025.
The WCC enters the 2024-25 campaign after sending at least four teams to the postseason for the third straight season. Gonzaga, under the direction of 2024 WCC and Kathy Delaney-Smith National Coach of the Year, Lisa Fortier, made its seventh consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance last year, earning a No. 4 seed and hosting the first and second rounds. The Zags recorded double digit victories over UC Irvine and Utah to advance to the Sweet 16 for the fifth time in program history. GU finished 32-4 overall and ranked No. 14 in the final Associated Press national poll.
The WCC once again had multiple NCAA Tournament bids, as Portland captured the conference tournament crown for the second consecutive season and secured a tournament berth.
Santa Clara earned a four seed in the inaugural NCAA Women's Basketball Invitational Tournament (WBIT), and hosted BYU. The Broncos defeated the Cougars, before falling to WSU in Pullman, Washington. Santa Clara boasted a 13-1 record at home last season.
Pacific accepted its sixth invitation into the WNIT last season and advanced to the second round with a win over Cal Poly.
All five major award winners from last year return for the 2024-25 season in WCC Player of the Year and WCC Defensive Player of the Year Yvonne Ejim from Gonzaga, WCC Freshman of the Year Zeryhia Aokuso of Saint Mary's, WCC Newcomer of the Year Freja Werth from San Francisco, and WCC Sixth Woman of the Year Maud Huijbens from Gonzaga.
Oregon State and Washington State are each coming off NCAA postseason runs. The Beavers advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 and finished ranked No. 8 in the final Associated Press national poll, while the Cougars advanced to the semifinals of the WBIT.
The full WCC schedule with game times and television details will be announced in the fall.
