SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Santa Clara’s Sophie Glancey was named West Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week after a performance that included a mark achieved only four other times in program history. Portland’s Julia Dalan, the national leader in blocks, had another standout performance to earn West Coast Conference Freshman of the Week honors. The conference weekly award is the first for both individuals.
WEST COAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – SOPHIE GLANCEY, GR., F, – SANTA CLARA
Sophie Glancey (Boise, Idaho), who is on the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Preseason Watch List, scored a season-high 29 points with eight rebounds in Sunday’s 91-72 win at Grand Canyon. The 29 points matched the most scored in a game by an individual in the West Coast Conference this season. Gonzaga’s Lauren Whittaker posted 29 points against Colorado State on Nov. 13. Glancey was a perfect 13-for-13 from the free throw line in Sunday’s win, marking just the fifth time in program history a Bronco was perfect from the free throw line with at least 13 attempts.
Glancey ranks fifth in the West Coast Conference in scoring (15.3 ppg), fourth in rebounding (7.5 rpg), second in blocks (2.5 bpg), sixth in field goal percentage (.481) and fourth in free throw percentage (.814). The Bronco forward is tied for 13th nationally in blocks per game.
