Gonzaga's Braden Huff Named USBWA Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week

Huff's career-high 37 points highlights historic week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Gonzaga's Braden Huff has been named an Oscar Robertson Men’s Basketball National Player of the Week by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association, the group announced on Tuesday.

In addition to the national recognition, Huff also collected West Coast Conference Player of the Week accolades this week. It marked the second time this season he has secured conference weekly honors.

Huff totaled 57 points on 73.5 percent (25-for-34) shooting from the field over Gonzaga’s two games last week. He added 14 rebounds and two blocks during wins over Oregon and Campbell. Against Campbell, Huff tallied a career-high 37 points on 16-for-18 shooting, including connecting on his first 12 shots. Only one other Division I player in the last eight seasons has made 12 shots in a half without a miss, according to ESPN.

Huff matched his prior career high of 26 points in a game by halftime of the Campbell contest. His 16 made shots from the field were the most in McCarthey Athletic Center history, the most by a player in the West Coast Conference this season and the fourth-most in the nation. Huff's 37 points were the second most in the conference this season and the most by Zag since Julian Strawther's 40 points at Portland in 2023. Huff added 20 points in the victory over Oregon in Portland Sunday.

Huff is one of five national honorees, along with Christian Anderson of Texas Tech, Ja'Kobi Gillespie of Tennessee, Paul McNeil of NC State and Stephon Payne of Seton Hall. This is the West Coast Conference's second-straight USBWA weekly national honor, after Gonzaga's Graham Ike earned the recognition last week.

Gonzaga enters West Coast Conference play ranked No. 7 in the nation with a 12-1 overall record. All 12 West Coast Conference programs will begin league play on Sunday, Dec. 28.

The West Coast Conference boasted four USBWA national honorees last season.

The USBWA's national player of the week program has been affiliated with the Oscar Robertson Trophy since the 2009-10 season. Prior to the 2024-25 season, the USBWA had recognized just one player each week. Each Tuesday during the regular season, designated USBWA board members select five standouts from the 31 Division I conference players of the week to be recognized. The selections are chosen from a list of the conferences that named a player of the week on Monday.
