West Coast Conference Women's Basketball Championship Tips Off Thursday In Las Vegas

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The 2025 Credit Union 1 West Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Championship begins this week at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. No. 2 seed Portland looks to defend its conference tournament title, after defeating Gonzaga in last year’s championship game. The Pilots have won the WCC Basketball Championship each of the last two years and three times in the last five years.
 
The first nine games of the event will be on ESPN+, while the championship game on March 11 will air on ESPN2. Ann Schatz and Mary Murphy will be on the call for all 10 contests, with Jordan Robinson joining the broadcast team for the ESPN+ games.

Gonzaga swept its two road games en route to a share of the WCC regular season championship. The Bulldogs have won 16 of their last 17 games. Portland enters the WCC Basketball Championship on a 12-game winning streak.
 
After defeating Pacific, Gonzaga ended the regular season with a 68-61 win over Santa Clara. Freshman Allie Turner continued her sensational freshman season, putting up 23 points in the seven-point win against the Broncos. Turner started the game hitting her first seven shots from the field, putting up big numbers alongside Bree Salenbien.
 
Yvonne Ejim was named WCC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight season. Allie Turner earned WCC Freshman of the Year honors.
 
Portland enters the WCC Basketball Championship on a 12-game winning streak after recording hard-fought victories over San Francisco and Pacific to earn a share of the WCC regular season championship. It is the Pilots’ first regular season title since the 1996-97 season. Portland finished with a program-record 17 conference wins (17-3). The 28 overall wins during the regular season is a program record as a Division I program (they had 30 in the 1983-84 season). The Pilots have two double-digit winning streaks on the season, after completing the non-conference slate 14-0 with all of their wins by double digits. The Pilots have won 19 games overall by double-digits vs. Division I opponents.
 
Emme Shearer dropped a career high 28 points to lift Portland over Pacific in overtime. Portland hit 48 free throws in the game, setting a school record by seven free throws. Their free throw total is the highest in a single game in NCAA Division I since the 2013 season.
 
Washington State won its only game of the week at Pepperdine, securing the No. 3 seed. The Cougars' 14-6 mark is the best conference record in program history. With the team's eight made three-pointers against Pepperdine, Washington State has made 224 threes this season, two shy of breaking the program's single-season record of 225 set in 2023-24.
 
Oregon State has won seven of its last nine games. In the nine-game span, the Beavers have limited opponents to just 53.4 points per game, compared to 65.3 points surrendered per game in its first 22 contests. The OSU offense has also increased its production to 66.7 points per game, after averaging 61.4 points per contest in its first 22 games. Oregon State split its road matchups and finished fourth in the WCC regular season standings. The Beavers shot 50 percent from the floor and 62.5 percent from 3-point range against Pepperdine, led by Kelsey Rees and her 24 points. Rees was just one off her career high.
 
San Francisco split the weekend at home, falling to Portland by a single point before defending home court against San Diego. Freja Werth put up a big stat line of 30 points and 10 rebounds against the Toreros, her third double-double of the season. San Francisco matched its season-high with eight blocked shots, which led to nine fast-break points.
 
Saint Mary’s split its two games last week and finished sixth in the regular season standings. Kennedy Johnson was named West Coast Conference Newcomer of the Year while Emily Foy earned WCC Sixth Woman of the Year honors for their efforts this season. The Gaels stormed back from a double-digit deficit to beat Oregon State before a setback at LMU in the regular season finale.
 
Pacific dropped its two games to Gonzaga and Portland. Liz Smith played all 45 minutes against Portland. Entering the game, Smith needed just 28 minutes to become the all-time leader in minutes played in Pacific history. Correlating with her number of minutes played, she also assumed the mantle of Pacific's all-time games played leader by appearing in her 130th career game.
 
Santa Clara lost its only game to Gonzaga at home. Hannah Rapp scored a season-high 17 and pulled down 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Santa Clara will take on LMU in round two of this week’s 2025 Credit Union 1 WCC Basketball Championship.
 
LMU's Maya Hernandez earned WCC Player of the Week honors for her efforts in its two wins. Hernandez dropped 43 points on 57.1% shooting while grabbing 21 rebounds for the week. The Lions have won their last three games. Naudia Evans was an All-WCC Second Team selection.
 
Pepperdine dropped its two games, falling to Washington State and Oregon State. Chloe Sotell was selected to the WCC All-Freshman Team. The Waves will face off against San Diego in the first round of the 2025 Credit Union 1 WCC Basketball Championship.
 
San Diego dropped its two games last week. Kylie Horstmeyer scored her 1,000th career point with two free throws in the fourth quarter as she totaled 14 points in her last home game. Truitt Reilly picked up another double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds against LMU. Reilly was a WCC honorable mention selection alongside Horstmeyer.
