SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Ranked No. 10 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll, defending West Coast Conference Champion San Diego claimed the top spot in the annual Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll as announced on Thursday. The Toreros garnered nine first-place votes, while second-place Oregon State secured the other first-place vote.
The preseason poll and the all-conference preseason team were selected solely by a vote of the conference’s 10 head coaches. Coaches cannot vote for their own teams and student-athletes.
Portland followed the Beavers for third place with 58 points, while San Francisco and Seattle came in right behind the Pilots, tying for fourth with 56 points each.
In addition to the top-10 ranking by the Toreros, Seattle is also receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll as the Redhawks return to the West Coast Conference in 2025.
On the preseason team, the Toreros boasted four honorees while two each went to the Beavers and the Pilots. Pacific, San Francisco and Seattle each placed one member on the 11-player squad.
The four USD student-athletes honored were Vicente Ayala, Cesar Bahena, Samy Kanaan and Ethan Warne.
Arnau Farnos from Oregon State is the lone repeat preseason all-conference team honoree. Farnos returns after being named the 2024 West Coast Conference Midfielder of the Year and an all-conference first-team selection.
Farnos, Bahena, Kanaan, Warne and Joe Highfield (Portland) collected all-conference preseason team accolades after being named to the all-conference first team last fall.
