West Coast Conference Welcomes UC San Diego

UC San Diego joins as 10th conference member beginning in 2027-28

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference announced today the addition of UC San Diego. The Tritons will begin as a competing member July 1, 2027.

The West Coast Conference Presidents’ Council voted to admit UC San Diego as a member of the Conference. The addition of UC San Diego expands the West Coast Conference to 10 competing league members beginning in the 2027-28 academic year.

“This is a monumental day for the West Coast Conference,” said University of the Pacific President and Chair of the West Coast Conference Presidents’ Council, Christopher Callahan. “Under the leadership of Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla, UC San Diego is a thriving institution and its recent transition to NCAA Division I competition is a national success story. Khosla. “This move expands our reach across major West Coast metropolitan areas, amplifying our audience, media coverage and national presence. Plus, we’re excited to compete against cross-town rivals, the University of San Diego Toreros, ensuring that local fans can cheer on our San Diego teams in a variety of sports every year. This milestone elevates our university’s visibility, unlocking new opportunities for Triton students, scholar-athletes and the community – and cementing our reputation as a leader in elite Division I athletics.”

The Tritons began their NCAA Division I reclassification period in 2020 and completed their transition on July 1, 2024.
