SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Portland men, San Francisco women and Pilots' runners Nolan Turgeon and Latham West captured titles at the 2026 West Coast Conference Cross Country Championships at Tecolote Shores in Mission Bay Park on Friday.
The men's team title is the 36th all-time for Portland in the event's 52 stagings dating back to 1975. It marks San Francisco's seventh all-time women's team title and first since 2017.
The top 10 finishers from each race secured First Team All-WCC honors, while the No. 11-15 finishers earned Second Team All-Conference accolades.
Women's Race Recap
In a three-person battle at the front, Portland's Latham West kicked past Santa Clara's Milaina Almonte and San Francisco's Faustine Chaboche over the final 1,000 meters to become the third consecutive freshman to win the WCC women's individual title and also claim Freshman of the Year honors. West is the 15th league individual champion for Portland, the first since Anna Pataki in the pandemic 2020-21 event.
Led by Chaboche, the Dons placed their five scorers inside the top 9 to cruise to the team title at 28 points, clearing the runner-up Pilots (57) by 29. Santa Clara (84 points) finished third for its best team finish since 2008 (3rd).
Men's Race Recap
The men's race also featured a lead-pack trio as Portland's Nolan Turgeon traded pace with Saint Mary's Joseph O'Connell and Stuart Terrill for the opening 7 kilometers. Similar to West in the women's race, Turgeon turned it on over the final 1,000 to overtake the Gaels' duo and cross the tape first to become the 35th men's individual WCC champ from Portland.
Turgeon paced five Pilots in the top 10 - including Freshman of the Year Bodie Alderson in eighth - to give Portland (32 points) a comfortable 33-point cushion over second place San Francisco (65). Led by O'Connell and Terrill, Saint Mary's (85 points) came in third for its best showing at the conference meet since a runner-up finish in 1999.
The 2026 NCAA West Regionals are hosted by Sacramento State and will take place on Friday, Nov. 13, at the Arcade Creek Cross Country Course.
