No. 11 San Diego Holds Off No. 10 LMU

USD advances to the second round

LAS VEGAS — No. 11 seed San Diego emerged victorious over No. 10 seed LMU 66-62 in the first round of the Credit Union 1 West Coast Conference Men's Basketball Championship at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. USD jumped out to an early lead in the first half and led by nine at the half. Despite a second-half surge by the Lions, the Toreros held on for the win.

Earning a first-round victory for the second straight year, the Toreros will play No. 7 seed Seattle U in the second round on Friday at 8:30 p.m.

Adrian McIntyre led San Diego with 17 points, six rebounds and five assists. He connected on six of his eight free throw attempts. Juanse Gorosito nailed four treys, part of his 14 points. Assane Diop swatted three blocks and collected nine rebounds.

San Diego established early control against LMU, converting 54 percent from the field and 50 percent from beyond the arc. The Toreros also recorded three blocks and secured 18 rebounds.

LMU fought back in the second half. Myron Amey Jr. scored 16 points, along with three steals and five rebounds. Aaron McBride scored 21 points and secured eight rebounds. McBride made seven of his 11 attempts. 

Both the San Diego men and women won by the same score on Wednesday.
