LAS VEGAS - Candy Edokpaigbe led the way with 25 points and No. 7 seed San Francisco beat No. 11 seed San Diego 61-52 in the second round of the Credit Union 1 West Coast Conference Women's Basketball Championship from Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
With the win, USF advances to play No. 6 seed Pepperdine on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
Edokpaigbe added six rebounds and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line.
A defensive battle through the first half, these teams ended the first quarter tied at nine before USF led by four at halftime. An even third quarter led to the fourth quarter when the Dons were able to pull away for the win thanks to eight of Edokpaigbe's points to clinch the win.
USF gained multiple advantages over USD in earning the victory. The Dons scored 36 points in the paint to 22 for the Toreros. USF forced 13 steals to just two for USD, and San Francisco outscored San Diego in fast-break points, 9-0. USF also tallied 24 points of turnovers compared to just one for USD.
Olivia Owens led the Toreros in scoring, tallying 16 points with seven rebounds. Kylie Ray chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds.
