Position:
Coordinator of Women's Volleyball Officiating

In 2000, Karen Gee was hired as the WCC's Director of Volleyball Officials and is entering her 12th season in this role. Her collegiate volleyball background includes working NCAA Championship tournaments in Divisions I, II and III, along with two NAIA National Championships. Prior to NCAA's expansion to 64 teams, Gee served a five-year stint as Head Referee for the National Invitational Volleyball Championship, an event that provided an additional post-season option for Division I teams. She was also Head Referee for two pre-season events, now called the "AVCA Showcase," that featured four of the top teams in the country.

Gee's involvement in volleyball goes beyond college officiating. She has headed up the USA Volleyball Officials Division, encompassing all levels of officials from grass roots to Olympic and World Cup competition. In 1996, her expertise as an IBM systems engineer landed her a position managing an Atlanta Olympic Games staff who recorded electronic volleyball statistics. Gee has also filled several roles for the Professional Association of Volleyball Officials as President, National Rating Team Director and Finance Director.

In 2011, Gee was appointed as one of four NCAA Regional Advisors to build a newly launched Volleyball Officiating Program under the direction of NCAA National Coordinator Joan Powell. Representing conference coordinators on Powell's team, Gee is instrumental in developing evaluation tools, analytical spreadsheets and an online recommendation tool to help streamline the process of selecting post-season officials. In this role, she is able to leverage the skills gained from her experience in training, technology and finance. As she travels to WCC institutions this fall, Gee will add NCAA evaluations to her WCC coordinator duties.

Gee is currently a Senior Instructional Designer for Kaiser Permanente, developing curriculum for medical staff to learn Kaiser's state-of-the-art electronic medical records system. Outside the volleyball world, she competes on USA Tennis women's teams and holds a second degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
