Oct. 27, 2017 WCC CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL | MEN'S RACE RESULTS
OAKLAND, Calif. -- No. 2 BYU turned in a truly dominant performance en route to capturing its third consecutive West Coast Conference Championship on a stunning morning at the Metropolitan Golf Links. It is the fifth title in six seasons for the Cougars, who posted the 11th perfect score (15 points) in WCC Championship history and the first since Portland accomplished the feat in 2003.
Perennial power No. 3 Portland posted its third straight runner-up showing, with two student-athletes in the top-10 for 58 points. No. 29 San Francisco finished third with 75 points, paced by two student-athletes in the top-15.
The day belonged to the Cougars with all seven entrants posting top-10 finishes (only the top five individual finishes per team count towards final score).
Junior Connor McMillan won in impressive fashion for the Cougars breaking the tape at 23:22.8 besting fellow BYU junior and runner-up Daniel Carney at 23:28.9. McMillan's time was the fastest at the conference meet since BYU's Jason Witt won the 2013 event in Malibu with a time of 23:14.
Casey Clinger finished third at 23:29 to claim WCC Freshman of the Year honors edging out Rory Linkletter in fourth place at 23:29. Clayton Young capped off the Cougar sweep at 23:29.1 followed by a pair of Pilots: Jeff Thies (6th/23:31.4) and Nick Hauger (7th/23:31.6).
Senior Mohamed Aziz finished seventh (23:34.2) for San Francisco. Two additional Cougars earned WCC First Team honors by virtue of a top-10 finish: freshman Kramer Morton (9th/23:35.9) and junior Jonathan Harper (10th/23:35.9).
Gonzaga (123 points) was fourth overall while Santa Clara (165) finished fifth.
BYU's Ed Eyestone was selected as WCC Coach of the Year for the fourth time, third consecutive.
