SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference announced the 2017 Cross Country All-Academic Team on Wednesday after another historic season, with multiple runners excelling both on the course and in the classroom.
NCAA National runner up San Francisco paced the conference with four runners on the All-Academic Team, led by Weronika Pyzik and WCC individual champion Charlotte Taylor who each made their second consecutive appearance. Taylor was one of three runners to earn a 4.00 GPA.
Taylor posted a third-place individual finish at the NCAA Championships, while Pyzik was fifth. Sophomore Isabelle Brauer posted a 15th place finish at the NCAA’s and the Dons trio all earned All-American status.
This is the second straight year the WCC has seen multiple 4.00 GPAs on the All-Academic Team, after five runners reached the mark last season.
Gonzaga’s Jordan Thurston joined Taylor and Pyzik in making a repeat appearance on the All-Academic Team. The other seven members all made their debuts as All-Academic runners.
All told, 27 student-athletes earned a 3.50 GPA or higher with 20 of them exceeding a 3.75.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team.
