REDONDO BEACH - The 2017 West Coast Conference Postgraduate Scholarship recipients were announced at the eighth annual WCC Honors Dinner, held in conjunction with the Executive Council and Presidents' Council meetings at the Crown Plaza Redondo Beach and Marina Hotel in Redondo Beach, Calif. Loyola Marymount soccer student-athlete Mark Dotseth was named the Male Postgraduate Scholarship winner, while University of Portland cross country student-athlete Anna Farello was named the Female Postgraduate Scholarship winner. 
Dotseth is the first Lion to capture a Postgraduate Scholarship since the award was instituted in 2004. Farello is the ninth Pilot to have captured the award, following Scott Fauble who won the award in 2015. 
To be eligible for a WCC Postgraduate Scholarship, a student-athlete must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25, demonstrate significant athletic contributions to his or her sport for a minimum of two years, and have a record of participation in campus or community activities. He or she also must submit a personal statement of intention to attend graduate or professional school for which this scholarship would be awarded.

MARK DOTSETH, LOYOLA MARYMOUNT UNIVERSITY, MEN'S SOCCERDotseth graduated from Loyola Marymount University in December with a 3.7 GPA in Biology. A two-year team captain, Dotseth started 66 of 69 games for the Lions defense that set several records over the past four years. A member of the 2013 All-Freshman team, he helped guided his team to a WCC championship and NCAA tournament berth. Off of the field, Dotseth was also impressive in the classroom by being named to the WCC All-Academic team from 2014-2016 and was named to the Dean's list from 2013-2016.
Dotseth served on the Loyola Marymount Student-Athlete Advisory Council from 2013-2016 and volunteered at the Los Angeles Foodbank, LAFC Camp, and at Playa Vista Elementary School for several years. He was also an academic tutor in the science department at Loyola Marymount. 
Dotseth plans on attending medical school with the hope of becoming a doctor who works in an academic setting.

ANNA FARELLO, UNIVERSITY OF PORTLAND, WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY/TRACK AND FIELDFarello graduated from University of Portland in May with a 3.98 GPA majoring in Psychology and Spanish, while also earning a minor in Biology. Farello was twice voted by her teammates as Most Inspirational and was also earned All-WCC honorable mention in her final cross country season. In 2016, she was a member of the WCC championship team that reached the NCAA championship for the first time in program history. She finished in 12th at the WCC championship and 28th at the NCAA West Regionals. 
Academically, Farello has a long and impressive list of accomplishments. A member of the Portland's Honors Program, she was on the Dean's List from 2013-2016 and had a perfect 4.0 in five semesters while also achieving the highest student-athlete GPA in the College of Arts & Sciences in 2014. Farello was a WCC All-Academic honorable mention member from 2014-2016 and was awarded the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship in 2016. In addition, she was an academic tutor for Portland student-athletes while also being on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee from 2014-2017.
Farello will be attending Ball State University pursuing a masters degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology, starting in the Fall of 2017.
