SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Gonzaga hosts No. 25 Pepperdine from Luger Field in Spokane, Wash., Friday night on ESPNU. As part of the West Coast Conference's agreement with ESPN, one key regular season women's soccer match will appear on ESPNU and WatchESPN with Friday's showdown having title implications.
With three matches to go, the Waves are in third place at 13 points (4-1-1) and trail both BYU and Santa Clara (15 each), although Pepperdine has beaten both of them. Gonzaga (3-2-1) sits fifth place with 10 points, but a win Friday night will move the Bulldogs into a tie with the Waves with two matches remaining.
Pepperdine leads the all-time series 18-5-2 against Gonzaga and is unbeaten in the last seven meetings (6-0-1), however the Bulldogs are a perfect 4-0-0 at home this season and will look to end Pepperdine's current shutout streak in the series that has seen Pepperdine outscore Gonzaga 14-0 over the last three matches.
Second-year Gonzaga head coach Chris Watkins will look for his second victory against a ranked opponent in his tenure in Spokane now that Pepperdine has reentered the national rankings at No. 25, appearing for the first time since the preseason poll.
