WEST COAST CONFERENCE BASKETBALL QUICK HITS
- West Coast Conference teams concluded non-conference play with a 49-12 (.803) record against non-Pac-12 opponents from conferences based on the west coast [Big Sky, Big West, Mountain West, WAC]. That number includes a pristine 15-1 mark against the MWC.
- RealTimeRPI rates three West Coast Conference teams in the Top 65 in RPI in Gonzaga (16), Saint Mary’s (40) and BYU (56).
- Gonzaga’s win against No. 8 Stanford marked the fifth Top 10 win in program history and the third in five seasons under Lisa Fortier. The win also cemented the best start to a season in program history at 9-1, surpassing the 8-2 marks done by the 2008-09 and 2013-14 teams.
- Gonzaga is riding a seven-game winning streak to lead the conference at 10-1. Overall, nine of 10 WCC schools finished non-conference with records above .500.
- With an average of 5,487 fans per game, Gonzaga’s average attendance ranks 13th & attendance ratio to capacity (90.4%) ranks 1st in the NCAA.
- BYU sophomore Sara Hamson is the active Division I blocks per game leader with a 3.60 blocks per game average in her career.
- Saint Mary’s senior Sydney Raggio sits 13th among active Division I rebound leaders with 846 in her career.
- Portland’s 8-3 record makes it the best non-conference season under Head Coach Cheryl Sorenson and is the best start to a season for the Pilots since the 1997-98 team went 11-2.
- San Diego junior Patricia Brossman is the WCC-leader in field goal percentage at .567, a big improvement upon last season’s .381 clip and he freshman year clip of .475. Her average ranks No. 32 in the NCAA
- Santa Clara junior Lauren Yearwood is the fourth in the country in blocked shots (33) and sixth in blocks per game (3.00) after the junior transfer’s strong start. Yearwood has posted at least three blocks in eight of 11 games this season, including each of the last three.
- Saint Mary’s, which ended the 2017-18 season ranked ninth in the country in field goal percentage at .478, are off to a strong start this year as the WCC leader and No. 11 in the NCAA with a .482 field goal percentage.
