WCC IN THE NATIONAL POLLS
On the men's side, four-time defending champion BYU enters the race at No. 2 for the third consecutive year. The Cougars, who are seeking their fifth consecutive WCC crown, earned 316 points in the latest USTFCCCA Poll (13 out of first place) behind two-time defending NCAA Champion NAU. Portland checks in at No. 12, while Gonzaga is ranked in the top-30 for the second straight season, appearing at No. 29.

On the women’s side, No. 4 BYU leads the charge. The Cougars are the defending WCC Champions.

WCC TAKES ON NATIONALS
MEN
For the second straight season, two WCC men’s programs posted podium finishes at the NCAA National meet in Madison, Wisconsin. BYU posted a national runner-up showing, while Portland was third. The Cougars and Pilots posted reverse results in the 2017 race with Portland taking second place.

It was the highest finish in program history for the Cougars who had previously placed third in 2017 and back in 1993. BYU posted a fourth place showing in both 2011 and 2014 as WCC members. The Pilots made their third podium appearance in five seasons.

WOMEN
BYU women posted a seventh-place finish at the 2018 NCAA Nationals – the best for the program since 2003. The best all-time WCC showing at NCAAs came 2017 when San Francisco was the NCAA National Runner-Up.

WCC WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP
This will be the 35th women's race. No. 4 BYU, who has registered three team titles and a runner-up showing at the Pre-Nationals Invitational enters as the favorite. Four teams have won championships in the last six races: Portland (2016), Gonzaga (2015), BYU (2014, 18) and San Francisco (2013, 17).

WCC MEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP
This will be the 45th men's race, and this season marks the third straight year that both BYU and Portland enter the championship ranked in the top-15 nationally. The Cougars and Pilots were both in the top-five in 2017 and again in 2018.

The Pilots and Cougars have combined to win the last 40 WCC Championships, highlighted by an unprecedented 32 consecutive by Portland (1979-2010). The two powerhouses figure to battle it out once again in a field laden with talent. No. 29 Gonzaga ranks in the nation’s top-30 programs while Pepperdine is No. 14 in the West Region.
