WCC Honors 2019 Mike Gilleran Scholar-Athletes of the Year

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The 2019 West Coast Conference Mike Gilleran Scholar-Athletes of the Year were announced at the tenth annual WCC Honors Dinner, held in conjunction with the Executive Council and Presidents' Council meetings Wednesday night at the Benson Hotel in Portland, Oregon. Gonzaga men's basketball student-athlete Josh Perkins was the recipient of the Men's award, while BYU volleyball student-athlete and All-American Roni Jones-Perry took home the Woman's award.

BYU and Gonzaga are taking the Women's and Men's awards, respectively, for the second time in three years. Cougars student-athlete Amy Boswell, also a finalist for NCAA Woman of the Year last year, was the recipient of the Women's award in 2017 while Gonzaga men's basketball student-athlete and All-American Nigel Williams-Goss won the Men's award.

The Mike Gilleran Scholar-Athlete of the Year is selected by a vote of the WCC's Executive Council to recognize the finest accomplishments in athletics, academics and community service by individuals who have completed their collegiate eligibility. The award is named in honor of the conference's first full-time commissioner, Mike Gilleran.

JOSH PERKINS, GONZAGA, MEN'S BASKETBALL
Josh Perkins held a 3.26 GPA as a graduate student, pursuing his Master's in Organizational Leadership while being named a candidate for both the Bob Cousy Award and Senior CLASS Award. The Park Hill, Colo. native is a three-time WCC All-Academic honoree and has volunteered extensively in the community, menoring local youth. He ranks third all-time in WCC history in assists and helped Gonzaga advance to four Sweet 16 appearances, two Elite Eights and the 2017 NCAA title game.

RONI JONES-PERRY, BYU, VOLLEYBALL
One of the most decorated student-athletes in BYU history, Roni Jones-Perry carried a 3.67 GPA as an Exercise Science major while leading her team to the 2018 Final Four in Minneapolis and finishing with a 31-2 record. She is a two-time All-American and was a finalist this season for AVCA National Player of the Year, while earning CoSIDA Academic All-American honors in 2018. During her time in Provo, BYU posted an overall record of 118-13, 66-6 in WCC play.
