WCC Honors 2019 Postgraduate Scholarship Winners


PORTLAND, Ore. - The 2019 West Coast Conference Postgraduate Scholarship recipients were announced as part of the ninth annual West Coast Conference Honors Dinner, held Wednesday night at the Benson Hotel in Portland, Oregon.

Gonzaga University men's soccer student-athlete Jacob Kempf was named the Male Postgraduate Scholarship winner, while Loyola Marymount University women's soccer student-athlete Emma Tyrnauer was named the Female Postgraduate Scholarship winner.

Tyrnauer is the second straight Lion and third overall to win a Postgraduate Scholarship since the award's inception in 2004. Kempf is the second straight student-athlete from Gonzaga to capture the award and the sixth overall.

To be eligible for a WCC Postgraduate Scholarship, a student-athlete must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25, demonstrate significant athletic contributions to his or her sport for a minimum of two years, and have a record of participation in campus or community activities. He or she also must submit a personal statement of intention to attend graduate or professional school for which this scholarship would be awarded.

JACOB KEMPF, GONZAGA UNIVERSITY, MEN'S SOCCER
A four-time President's List honoree who has been an active force in the community, Kempf has carried a 3.92 GPA while pursuing his MBA in Spokane. He graduated magna cum laude in 2017 with a Bachelor's degree in Economics after serving as a four-year starter for the Bulldogs, and capped it off by being named the 2019 Gonzaga Male Scholar Athlete of the Year. 

Kempf plans to pursue a career in the legal profession and will attend law school upon completion of his MBA. 

EMMA TYRNAUER, LOYOLA MARYMOUNT UNIVERSITY, WOMEN'S SOCCER 
A four-year member of the Dean's List and a two-time WCC All-Academic First Team selection, Tyrnauer held a 3.98 cumulative GPA in biology while starting all 78 matches in her four-year career. She is an All-WCC selection who ranks fourth in LMU history in minutes played. Tyrnauer was named the Female Student-Athlete of the Year at Loyola Marymount after a standout junior campaign, and since her arrival in Los Angeles, the Senior CLASS Award nominee has volunteered extensively in the community with most of her efforts going towards animal care and the growth of soccer. 

Tyrnauer plans to pursue a career as a vetrinarian and has been accepted to the UC Davis School of Vetrinary Medicine.
