LMU placed a conference-high three players on the 2020-21 All-West Coast Conference Preseason Spring Men’s Soccer Team and was picked to finish first in the Preseason Coaches Poll.
The preseason poll and All-WCC team were selected solely by a vote of the conference's eight head coaches. Coaches cannot vote for their own teams and student-athletes.
The Lions garnered three first-place votes and 45 total points while Saint Mary’s – the 2019 WCC champion – collected four first-place votes and 42 points. Saint Mary’s and LMU both earned bids to the 2019 NCAA Tournament. The Gaels advanced to the second round while LMU fell in the first round.
Portland came in third in the preseason poll with 35 points while San Diego picked up the remaining first-place vote and totaled 34 points. The second half of the poll included Gonzaga (20), Pacific (19), Santa Clara (19) and San Francisco (10).
Ten of the 11 members of the preseason team earned All-WCC recognition in 2019, including first-team honorees Bastien Oberli (LMU), Javier Ruiz Duran (Santa Clara) and Sebastian Schacht (Saint Mary’s). LMU’s Noel Caliskan was the 2019 WCC Freshman of the Year and is one of five from the preseason squad who earned a spot on the All-WCC Second Team last season.
The 2020-21 WCC spring men’s soccer season is set to open on Feb. 17 when Gonzaga plays at Portland.
