Presenting the 2020-21 Men’s Cross Country All-Academic Team

2020 NCAA Individual Champion & USTFCCCA National Male Athlete of the Year Conner Mantz makes second first team appearance

SAN MATEO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has announced its Men’s Cross Country All-Academic Team for the 2020-21 season, encompassing WCC student-athletes who excelled this year both on the course and in the classroom.

Six WCC institutions were represented across the board on the All-Academic Team, showcased by four student-athletes from 2019 NCAA Champion BYU on the first team. Gonzaga and Pepperdine each had a pair of student-athletes on the 10-member first team.

This year’s squad features just one repeat appearance: BYU All-American and 2020-21 USTFCCCA National Male Athlete of the Year Conner Mantz. The junior and United State Olympic hopeful was the individual medalist at the 2020 NCAA Men’s Cross Country Championship – the third in program history, first in WCC history. All-American Casey Clinger, also of BYU, earned a spot on the first team.

No fewer than 40 student-athletes qualified for academic honors with 23 posting a GPA of at least 3.50, while 19 posted marks of 3.75 or better. Pepperdine’s Karl Winter led the way with a 4.00 in Journalism.

At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to his team.
