WCC Announces 2020-21 Women’s Cross Country All-Academic Team

24 Student-Athletes Post 3.75 GPA or better in 2020-21

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has announced its Women’s Cross Country All-Academic Team for the 2020-21 season, encompassing WCC student-athletes who excelled this year both on the course and in the classroom.

Five WCC institutions were represented across the board on the All-Academic First Team, headlined by three student-athletes from NCAA Nationals participant Portland, and a pair of student-athletes from 2020 NCAA National Champion BYU, Gonzaga, and San Francisco.

This year’s squad features three repeat appearances led by BYU All-American Olivia Hoj, who claims a first team spot for the third straight year. Portland’s Sofia Castiglione, the 2020 NCAA Elite-90 winner, presented to the senior with the highest GPA competing at the national championship, earned first team honors for the second time, posting a 4.00 GPA in Biology. Gonzaga’s Claire Manley also made her second straight first team appearance.

No fewer than 56 student-athletes qualified for academic honors.  More than 40 posted a GPA of at least 3.50, while 24 posted marks of 3.75 or better.

At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team.
