LMU’s Cervantes, Jackson Sweep WCC Weekly Men’s Soccer Honors

Lions extend nation’s longest active unbeaten streak to eight matches

SAN MATEO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named its Men’s Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for September 27, 2021.
 
#WCCSPORTS OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – NARCISO CERVANTES, SR., MIDFIELDER – LMU
Senior midfielder Narciso Cervantes led LMU to two wins this past week at home versus Cal Poly San Luis Obispo on Monday and on the road against California on Friday afternoon. Cervantes notched a goal and two points in the two games, including the game-winning score in the 1-0 victory over the Golden Bears on the road.
 
Cervantes' goal with less than ten minutes to play against the Bears was his team-leading fourth of the year to go along with his Lion-leading eight points on the season. With the wins the Lions extend their winning streak to eight and continue to boast the nation's longest unbeaten streak.
 
It is the first WCC weekly honor for Cervantes this season and the second this season for the Lions. This week also marks the second weekly honor sweep for LMU.

#WCCSPORTS DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – JACOB JACKSON, SR., GK – LMU
Senior goalkeeper Jacob Jackson led the Lions to a pair of victories during the week, posting shutouts in each game. The Lions began the week with a 1-0 victory against Cal Poly San Luis Obispo on Monday night then earned a big 1-0 road win at California on Friday afternoon.
 
The redshirt junior finished with five saves for the week in 180 minutes on the pitch. On Friday afternoon, after the Lions scored the game's first goal in the waning minutes, Jackson made a huge stop in the final two minutes of the match to seal the 1-0 win for LMU.
 
It is the second straight WCC weekly honor for Jackson this season and the third this season for the Lions. This week also marks the second weekly honor sweep for LMU.
