SAN MATEO, Calif. – After his single-game program-record scoring performance, San Diego’s Eric Williams has been voted the University Credit Union West Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, with Chance Stephens of LMU taking home Freshman-of-the-Week accolades, the league announced on Monday, Nov. 21.
 
UCU WCC MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – ERIC WILLIAMS, SR., G – SAN DIEGO
Eric Williams set a San Diego program record when he scored 43 points against Utah State last Thursday at Jenny Craig Pavilion. The previous record of 40 points by Robert “Pinky” Smith stood atop the Torero single-game scoring list since 1972. En route to his record-breaking performance, Williams connected on 13 of his 20 field-goal attempts, including 7-of-8 from three-point distance, and was 10-of-13 from the charity stripe, while pulling down 13 rebounds. One of the senior’s seven treys came with 2.8 seconds left in regulation, sending the game to overtime. The second-highest scoring performance in Division I this season (James Bishop, George Washington – 44).

UCU WCC MEN'S BASKETBALL FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK – CHANCE STEPHENS, FR., G – LMU
Chance Stephens helped LMU win the Jamaica Classic Championship and was named tournament MVP for his efforts after the Lions defeated Georgetown and Wake Forest. In a week where LMU traveled to play UC Irvine before heading to Jamaica, Stephens averaged 11.3 points, connecting on 10-of-25 from deep (40.0 3FG) in 25.7 minutes off the bench. Two nights after knocking down three triples in the win over the Hoyas, Stephens opened the Wake Forest game with a 16-point first half (5-5 FG) as the Lions built a 10-point halftime lead. The guard later made a go-ahead three in overtime to propel LMU to the 77-75 victory. Stephens finished the game with a career-high 23 points on the strength of a 7-for-10 performance from three-point distance against the Demon Deacons.
