SAN MATEO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference Presidents’ Council has appointed Connie Hurlbut to serve as the WCC’s interim Commissioner. Hurlbut, who has served as a Senior Associate Commissioner for the Conference since 2017, assumes the role as interim Commissioner on Dec. 1.
 
“We appreciate Connie Hurlbut accepting this leadership role as the interim Commissioner of the West Coast Conference,” Dr. Thayne McCulloh, President of Gonzaga University and the Chair of the WCC Presidents’ Council, said. “Connie is an experienced leader with the full support of the WCC Presidents’ Council to guide the Conference during this period of transition. She will lead the WCC as the Conference continues to work towards achieving its strategic goals during an important time in collegiate athletics.”
 
Hurlbut is a veteran collegiate athletics administrator, who has previously served as Executive Director of the Patriot League, and in senior leadership roles at the Western Athletic Conference, the WNBA, and the Ivy League. She previously served as the WCC’s interim Commissioner prior to the appointment of WCC Commissioner Gloria Nevarez.
 
Hurlbut is currently the WCC’s Senior Associate Commissioner for Governance, Compliance, Women’s Basketball and the Senior Woman Administrator. She has day-to-day oversight of the Conference's operations relating to governance, compliance, as well as NCAA and institutional relations. In addition to serving as the Conference's Senior Woman Administrator, she provides support to the Presidents' and Executive Councils and various head coaches' groups, including women's basketball. In her first five years as a member of the Conference Office, she also oversaw all championship event operations and was the Tournament Director for the University Credit Union WCC Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament. Hurlbut spearheaded the development of the WCC’s current five-year strategic plan in 2020 and oversaw the WCC’s Gender Equity Review in 2022. She has served on several NCAA committees during her career, most recently completing her term as the Chair of the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Committee.
 
Hurlbut assumes the interim Commissioner role following the departure of Commissioner Gloria Nevarez to the Mountain West Conference.
 
The WCC Presidents’ Council will conduct a national search for the next WCC Commissioner.
