SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Following a 39-point performance, Santa Clara’s Tess Heal has won the University Credit Union West Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Week award for the fifth-straight week and is tied for the most in a season with 11. Thirty-point performances led to San Francisco’s Ioanna Krimili and BYU’s Lauren Gustin being named UCU WCC Co-Players of the Week.

It was a tremendous weekend for the Dons’ junior guard as she helped San Francisco earn the weekend sweep at home over San Diego and BYU. In her team’s victories she averaged 24.5 ppg while shooting 48.6 percent from the field and 58.8 percent from three-point range. Krimili dropped 31 points against the Toreros and 18 points against the Cougars.
 
UCU WCC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – LAUREN GUSTIN, JR., F – BYU
Lauren Gustin went over 1,000 career points against Santa Clara on Thursday, scoring 30 points in the win. She became the second BYU player to have 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds. Gustin then set a new WCC single-season record for total rebounds against San Francisco on Saturday. She is tied first in the NCAA in double doubles (24) and leads the country in rebounds per game (16.3).

UCU WCC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK – TESS HEAL, FR., G – SANTA CLARA
Tess Heal scored the second-most points in a game by a Santa Clara player turning in a whopping 39 points against BYU. Heal followed up Thursday’s performance with a 17-point performance on Saturday against San Diego. She’s currently tied for the highest point total in the WCC with 511 points. For the week, Heal averaged 28 points, five assists and 1.5 rebounds.
