LMU Earns Six Seed in NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship

Lions will face No. 11 Hawai’i on Friday at 2 p.m. PT on ESPNU

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – No. 5 LMU, who captured the 2023 WCC Beach Volleyball Tournament title, has earned a No. 6 seed in the NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship and will face No. 11 seed Hawai’i in its opening round match on Friday at 2 p.m. PT on ESPNU.
 
The full 17-team NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship field was announced Sunday morning. The single-elimination tournament will begin on Wednesday, with the No. 16 and No. 17 seeds facing off, before a 16-team tournament gets underway on Friday. The quarterfinals and semifinals are on Saturday and the championship match will be on Sunday. 
 
The entire NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship will be televised across ESPN networks, with Friday’s first round on ESPNU, Saturday’s quarterfinals and semifinals on ESPN2 and Sunday’s championship match on ESPN.
 
The Lions, under head coach John Mayer, captured the WCC Beach Volleyball Tournament title this past Friday, winning all three of its matches in the two-day tournament. LMU defeated Santa Clara, 5-0, on Friday, and earned 4-1 and 3-0 victories over No. 19 Pepperdine on Friday to take the Conference crown.
 
LMU enters the NCAA Championship with a 28-8 overall record, including 16 victories against nationally-ranked opponents.
 
The Lions are making their third appearance in the NCAA Championships, earning a bid each of the two previous seasons as well. LMU was a No. 4 seed last season, and a No. 5 seed in 2021. The Lions finished among the top four of the NCAA Championship each of the last two seasons. They won three matches in last year’s tournament, defeating Hawai’i, Florida Atlantic and George State.
