SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Pepperdine freshman Max Smirnov’s dominant performance in goal helped him take home this week’s KAP7 WCC Men’s Water Polo Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week awards. Smirnov is the only player in the WCC to win both awards this season and is the third Pepperdine player to be named KAP7 Player of the Week and second Wave to win KAP7 Newcomer of the Week.

Max Smirnov had an incredible performance in goal for the Pepperdine Waves in the 13-10 win over #13 San Jose State and helped Pepperdine improve to 5-0 in conference play. Smirnov recorded an impressive 16 saves while anchoring the goal and holding San Jose State to just 10 goals on a .294 shooting percentage. He posted an incredible .615 save percentage as well. Additionally, he also collected two steals against the Spartans.
