SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO - West Coast Conference Commissioner Stu Jackson has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee, as announced on Friday by the NCAA.
Jackson will complete the term of Santa Clara Director of Athletics Renee Baumgartner on the committee. Baumgartner recently announced she will be stepping down from her role at Santa Clara at the end of June.
Jackson’s appointment will begin immediately and will run through the 2028 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship.

"I appreciate Renee Baumgartner’s service and am humbled to be appointed to complete her term with this esteemed group. I am anxiously looking forward to the opportunity to work with the existing committee members and NCAA staff under Dan Gavitt’s stellar leadership on basketball’s premier event and contribute to the Men’s Basketball Championship and other future initiatives."
Along with Jackson, the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Committee for the 2024-25 academic year includes Brian Thornton, Commissioner of the Western Athletic Conference; Greg Byrne, Director of Athletics at Alabama; Chad Weiberg, Director of Athletics at Oklahoma State; Mark Coyle, Director of Athletics at Minnesota; Bubba Cunningham, Director of Athletics at North Carolina; Keith Gill, Commissioner of the Sun Belt Conference; Mark Jackson, Director of Athletics at Villanova; Arthur Johnson, Director of Athletics at Temple; Martin Newton, Director of Athletics at Samford and Tom Wistrcill, Commissioner of the Big Sky Conference. NCAA Senior Vice President of Basketball, Dan Gavitt, oversees the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee.
With Jackson’s appointment to the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee, he will no longer serve on the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Oversight Committee.
Jackson, who is in his second year as Commissioner of the West Coast Conference, has served in collegiate athletics administration or as a NCAA Division I men’s basketball coach for more than 15 years. Prior to his appointment as WCC Commissioner, Jackson oversaw men’s basketball operations for nine years at the Big East Conference. He was a men’s basketball student-athlete at the University of Oregon and Seattle University and later held coaching positions at Providence College and Washington State University, before serving as the head coach at the University of Wisconsin.
Jackson also served in the National Basketball Association league office and as an NBA head coach and general manager before returning to collegiate athletics as an executive with the Big East Conference.
The West Coast Conference will be well represented on several NCAA sport committees in the 2024-25 academic year. Along with Jackson’s appointment to the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee, Pacific Deputy Director of Athletics, Wes Yourth, serves on the NCAA Men’s Water Polo Committee; LMU Deputy Director of Athletics, Ashley Armstrong, serves on the NCAA Beach Volleyball Committee; Portland Senior Associate Director of Athletics, Karina Handeland, serves on the NCAA Track and Field and Cross Country Committee; and Portland Director of Athletics, Scott Leykam, will begin his term on the NCAA Baseball Committee in the fall. In addition, Pepperdine Faculty Athletics Representative, Alicia Jessop, serves on the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Oversight Committee.
