Mark Few To Receive John R. Wooden Legends of Coaching Award

Few will be honored at a ceremony in April

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Gonzaga men's basketball head coach Mark Few will receive the John R. Wooden Award Legends of Coaching Award, presented by Principal, in 2025 as announced today at the Los Angeles Athletic Club’s annual Wooden Award Tip-Off Luncheon.

Few will be presented the honor with the 2025 Wooden Award winners presented by Principal on April 11, 2025.

The Legends of Coaching honor recognizes coaches who exemplify Wooden’s high standard of coaching success. The honorees are selected based on character, success on the basketball court, graduation rate of student-athletes in their program, coaching philosophy and identification with the goals of the John R. Wooden Award.

Since becoming head coach in 1999, Few has registered a winning percentage of 83.4 percent (716-143) in his 25 seasons at the helm for the Bulldogs. His Zags have won or shared 22 regular season WCC titles during his tenure, and Few has been named the WCC Coach of the Year 14 times, most recently in 2021. His NCAA Tournament accolades include appearing in the national championship game in 2017 and 2021, the Elite Eight six times and 14 trips to the Sweet 16. Gonzaga's active streak of nine straight appearances in the Sweet 16 is the best in the nation.

Few has mentored 21 consensus All-Americans, nine Academic All-Americans and 17 WCC Players of the Year. Three of Few's proteges went on to become top-5 NBA Draft picks - Adam Morrison (3rd, 2006), Jalen Suggs (5th, 2021) and Chet Holmgren (2nd, 2022). Twelve Zags have been drafted in the first round during the Few era.

Making his mark internationally, last summer Few was an assistant coach for Team USA, which won gold, at the Summer Olympics in Paris.

Off the court, Few and his wife, Marcy, have raised money towards cancer research over the last 25 years, including hosting the country's largest Coaches vs. Cancer event, endowing a weeklong camp for children with cancer and spearheading the Community Cancer fund in Spokane.
