SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference tied a conference record with six men's basketball teams selected to participate in the postseason after Oregon State and Washington State were named to the inaugural College Basketball Crown field on Monday morning. The Beavers and Cougars became the fifth and sixth West Coast Conference teams to join the postseason after Saint Mary's and Gonzaga were selected to the NCAA Tournament, and San Francisco and Santa Clara were named to the NIT field on Sunday.
West Coast Conference men's basketball has featured six teams in the postseason in two other seasons in 2022 and 2014. Combined with the six West Coast Conference women's basketball teams competing in the postseason, a conference-record 12 men’s and women’s basketball teams will compete in the postseason. The West Coast Conference also had 12 teams (six men’s teams and six women’s teams) compete in postseason tournaments in 2022.
“It is another strong year for the West Coast Conference, highlighted by a record six consecutive tournaments of multiple NCAA men’s basketball bids defined by some of the winningest programs over the past two decades,” West Coast Conference Commissioner Stu Jackson said. “We are well represented with a record 12 West Coast Conference men’s and women’s basketball teams competing in the postseason, including multiple bids across all three major men’s postseason tournaments, and bids in all three major women’s postseason tournaments. We look forward to building on our rich history as these 12 men’s and women’s West Coast Conference programs compete for championships.”

The first two rounds of the CBC will take place at MGM's Grand Garden Arena with the semifinals (April 5) and championship game (April 6) taking place at T-Mobile Arena.
Oregon State (20-12) has hung its hat on a defensive mindset this season as the Beavers ranked third in the West Coast Conference in scoring defense, allowing 69.1 ppg. OSU also ranked fourth in the league in scoring offense at 76.2 ppg. A big part of the scoring production can be attributed to standout Michael Rataj who finished the regular season third in the WCC in double-doubles with 10 and sixth in the WCC in rebounding at 7.2 rpg. Rataj was a First Team All-WCC selection. Nate Kingz was also a big contributor for the Beavers, converting on nearly half of his three-point attempts (.446). OSU is no stranger to significant wins, earning an overtime win over Gonzaga during the regular season.
Washington State (19-14) earned a bid into the postseason with Nate Calmese leading the way for the Cougars, averaging 15.2 points per game, sixth in the West Coast Conference. He was an All-WCC Honorable Mention selection. Thanks to Calmese's efforts, WSU averaged 78.8 points per game, which ranked third in the league. The Cougars also ranked second in three-pointers made (8.8).
