SAN BRUNO, Calif. – San José State was selected as the preseason favorite in the 2025 West Coast Conference Men's Water Polo Coaches’ Poll, as announced by the Conference on Friday. The Spartans collected four first-place votes and 33 points, while second-place Pepperdine (29 points), third-place LMU (24 points) and Pacific (24 points) each received one first-place vote, respectively.
The preseason poll and the preseason all-conference team were selected solely by a vote of the Conference’s seven head coaches. Coaches cannot vote for their own team and student-athletes.
All seven programs are recognized in the Collegiate Water Polo Association's preseason national poll. The Waves are the top-ranked West Coast Conference team in the poll, coming in tied for seventh. Pacific, last year's West Coast Conference regular season champion, is ranked ninth. San José State is tied for tenth place, while defending West Coast Conference Tournament champion, California Baptist, is ranked 13th. LMU and Santa Clara are ranked 16th and tied for 18th, respectively. Air Force is receiving votes in the preseason national poll.
San José State, the runner-up in the 2024 West Coast Conference Men's Water Polo Tournament, placed two on the preseason all-conference team. Pepperdine also placed two on the preseason all-conference team, while Air Force, LMU, Santa Clara and California Baptist each had one honoree. A tie in voting resulted in an eight-member preseason all-conference team.
Two-time West Coast Conference Men's Water Polo All-Tournament Team member and 2023 Tournament Most Outstanding Player Brendon Gyapjas of San José State returns this year as a preseason all-conference team honoree.
Tommaso Baldineti (LMU), Adam Csapo (Pepperdine) and Tom Leggett (Air Force) are all returners from last year's preseason team.
The 2025 West Coast Conference Men’s Water Polo Tournament will be held from Friday, Nov. 21 through Sunday, Nov. 23, and hosted at the Cadet Natatorium on the Air Force Academy campus.
