SAN BRUNO, Calif. – San Diego earned the top spot in the annual West Coast Conference Volleyball Preseason Coaches Poll as announced on Wednesday. The Toreros garnered 10 of the 12 first-place votes.
The preseason poll and the all-conference team were selected solely by a vote of the conference’s 12 head coaches. Coaches cannot vote for their own teams and student-athletes.
Following USD's 10 first-place votes and 120 points, Pepperdine came in second with 107 points and earned the other two first-place votes. Defending West Coast Conference champion LMU was next in third with 97 points, while Oregon State and Washington State tied for fourth with 86 points each.
On the preseason team, San Diego registered five student-athletes on the 16-player squad, while Pepperdine heard its name called three times. Oregon State and Portland boasted two members on the all-conference preseason team. Eight of the 12 West Coast Conference programs were represented on the preseason team.
Among the preseason team honorees are the 2024 West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year Isabel Clark and the 2024 West Coast Conference Co-Setter of the Year Kylie Munday. Six preseason team honorees picked up all-conference first-team honors last season - Genevieve Bane (SMC), Annika Hester (OSU), Taina Kaauwai (POR), Ella Piskorz (PEP) and Lauren Rumel (OSU) and Clark.
Nemo Beach (USD), Maui Robins (POR), Bane, Hester and Rumel secured West Coast Conference preseason team honors last year. This is the third year in a row that Bane earned conference preseason team accolades.
Fans can catch West Coast Conference volleyball action this season on ESPN+. In addition, the LMU at Pepperdine match can be seen on ESPNU on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m.
