Portland Men’s Soccer Ranked No. 1 In Latest United Soccer Coaches Poll

West Coast Conference recognizes three teams in the top 19 led by the top-ranked Pilots

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Portland is ranked No. 1 in the nation, San Diego is ranked No. 15 and Oregon State is tied for 19th in the latest United Soccer Coaches Men’s Soccer national poll released on Tuesday, as the West Coast Conference celebrates the achievements of its membership and continued national impact.

“The West Coast Conference proudly celebrates the No. 1 team in the country as our membership’s performance excellence continues to make an extraordinary impact on the national stage.” said West Coast Conference Commissioner Stu Jackson. “The level of performance that Portland, San Diego and Oregon State have demonstrated exemplifies the hard work and execution of its student-athletes and coaches, and we congratulate them.”

The Pilots currently stand at 7-0-1 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play following last Saturday’s 3-0 win over Gonzaga in the conference opener. Portland currently owns an 18-game unbeaten streak – dating back to last season – the second longest streak in the nation and the longest in program history since 1988. Portland did not allow a goal through the first six games of the season, as well. The Pilots host Florida International Tuesday at 7 p.m. PT on ESPN+ before heading to LMU on Saturday night.

Three-time defending West Coast Conference champion San Diego currently owns a 6-1-3 record. The Toreros opened the regular season facing three straight ranked non-conference opponents. Among the tough trio of season-opening matches, the Toreros defeated No. 21 Denver and tied No. 20 Furman. USD is currently enjoying a nine-match unbeaten streak heading into this Saturday’s home match against San Francisco.

Oregon State boasted an overall record of 5-3 and 1-0 in conference play after a road victory at San Francisco last week. The Beavers have won three of their last four, with the lone loss during that span a narrow defeated at No. 6 Stanford.

San Diego and Portland will play each other in Portland on Friday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. PT on ESPN+.
