SAN BRUNO, Calif. – San José State’s Samu Biros was named the KAP7 West Coast Conference Men’s Water Polo Player of the Week for the first time this season and fellow first-time honoree Leo Hachem of Saint Mary’s claimed the KAP7 WCC Men’s Water Polo Newcomer of the Week award after both players starred for their respective teams in the Julian Fraser Memorial co-hosted by the Spartans and Santa Clara.
KAP7 WEST COAST CONFERENCE MEN’S WATER POLO PLAYER OF THE WEEK – SAMU BIROS, JR., U – SAN JOSÉ STATE
Samu Biros led San José State to wins against No. 20 Brown (18-13), No. 14 California Baptist (20-14) and Bucknell (22-13) over three days in the Julian Fraser Memorial. Biros recorded four goals and three assists against Brown on Friday, and versus CBU on Saturday he collected a season-high six goals and five assists while also drawing a kickout and recording a field block. Against Bucknell on Sunday, Biros scored four goals and dished two assists along with notching a steal and a kickout drawn. Across the tournament, the junior scored 14 goals and tallied 10 assists for a total of 24 points.

True freshman Leo Hachem posted 10 goals and 2 assists in games against Bucknell, Division III No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer and No. 18 Harvard at the Julian Fraser Memorial. He also drew five exclusions to bring his season tally to 27, good for second most on the squad. The Montreal native continues to lead the Gael attack with 46 goals and 58 points.
