West Coast Conference Men's Tennis Round Up - March 25

Three teams rank in the ITA top 40

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Defending West Coast Conference champions No. 13 San Diego are one of three teams ranked in the top 40 in the latest ITA ranking along with No. 25 Pepperdine and No. 40 Santa Clara as conference action continues this week.    

Both the Broncos and LMU are enjoying eight-match winning streaks, while the Toreros have won their last four in a row. Pacific currently stands in first place in the conference standings after defeating Portland in the lone conference match played thus far.  

San Diego is enjoying a 12-4 overall record thus far, while LMU stands at 12-1 and Santa Clara is 12-2. Pepperdine is 9-6 with four victories over ITA top-25 opponents. 

In the Rankings
In addition to the team rankings, San Diego's Oliver Tarvet currently ranks No. 46 in singles. Tarvet recently defeated back-to-back NCAA Singles Champion No. 8 Michael Zheng from No. 28 Columbia in the Toreros' most recent match. 

This Week
Action for the week continues this afternoon with Santa Clara hosting Cal Poly and Gonzaga hosting Denver. If the Broncos win, Niall Angus will become the winningest head coach in the history of the Santa Clara program. The West Coast Conference earned its first win of the week on Tuesday when LMU beat Dartmouth, 5-2.

San Diego is back in action on Friday, heading north to face Portland. Pepperdine looks to remain in the top 25 with a trip to Pacific on tap for Friday and Gonzaga hosts Santa Clara also on Friday. Two matches are slated for Saturday with Saint Mary's hosting the Waves and Pacific welcoming LMU to Stockton. 

The week wraps up with three more matches on Sunday. The Toreros complete their Pacific Northwest trip at Gonzaga while Portland hosts Santa Clara. Saint Mary's hosts LMU to conclude the week. 

Last Week
Only five matches took place last week involving West Coast Conference teams. In additon to the 6-1 win by USD over Columbia, the Toreros defeated Harvard, 5-2, earlier in the week. LMU topped Hawaii at home, 4-2 last Thursday. Last Saturday's matches also featured Santa Clara defeating Dartmouth, 6-1, and Pacific beating Portland in the West Coast Conference opener, 4-2.
