SAN BRUNO, Calif. - From Washington down to San Diego and over to Kansas City, West Coast Conference rowing was in full effect last weekend.
Gonzaga garnered West Coast Conference Crew of the Week honors this week with its varsity eight boat. The Bulldogs' crew took first to help the team capture a second consecutive Fawley Cup against Washington State.

Gonzaga, Oregon State, Sacramento State, San Diego and Washington State will all be competing at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center, home of the West Coast Conference Women's Rowing Championships, this weekend for the Big Ten invite. Elsewhere in the league, Creighton will compete at the Illinois Collegiate Rowing Championships in Farmer City, Illinois on Saturday.
Last Time Out
Last weekend was the first time sine 2011 that the San Diego City Championships occured. The event first took place in 1984 and San Diego, while facing off against UC San Diego and San Diego State, swept all five races last Saturday to take home the Patty Wyatt Cup.
Portland, Seattle U and Santa Clara all battled on the water at the Portland Invite, with the Pilots sweeping all three races on the day.
In a dual against Seattle U, Santa Clara swept eight races last Friday.
For the second straight year and fifth time in program history, Gonzaga won the Fawley Cup against Washington State this past weekend. The Bulldogs earned the hardware after winning four of the six races last Saturday. Leading the way was Gonzaga's varsity eight, which edged out the Cougars time of 7:23.04 with a time of 7:20.88.
