SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The West Coast Conference and TheW.tv are pleased to announce that the digital network has received a NorCal Emmy ® Award Nomination for Sports-Program Feature/Segment.

The nominated segment, "Playing for a Higher Purpose," chronicles Santa Clara University student-athlete Hailai Arghandiwal and her perseverance to overcome a male-dominant culture through sport. The piece was written and produced by TheW.tv's Ezra Broder and aired on WCC All-Access.

"We are so proud to be nominated for an Emmy ® award in the sports feature category," said West Coast Conference Commissioner Gloria Nevarez. "Halai and her story epitomize the WCC student-athlete and the attributes that make the WCC a special place to get a world class education, compete at the highest levels and provide student-athletes the platforms to make an impact on a national -- and global -- scale. Kudos to Ezra Broder's hard work in bringing this story national attention."

Distributed in November of 2017, "Playing for a Higher Purpose" initially debuted on TheW.tv's Twitter page (@TheWtv) before being featured by NCAA Soccer, where it gained national attention.

The segment is one of four nominations in the category at the 47th Northern California Emmy ® Awards. Also from the WCC, University of San Francisco's Director of Creative Video Katie Morgan was nominated for her feature, "Behind the Mask: Joey's Journey."
