University of Portland Athletes of the Month-September

PORTLAND, Ore. - Kevin Beavers (Men's Golf) and Christine Sinclair (Women's Soccer) have been named University of Portland Male and Female Athletes of the Month for September.

Beavers finished in second-place of the Vandals Classic after firing the second best 54-hole individual score in Pilot history at 5-under 205 (68-68-69). He finished without a bogey for the tournament and led UP to a new 54-hole tournament record score of 845, good for second place behind tourney host Idaho. At the Northwest Collegiate Classic in early September, Beavers finished second among Pilot golfers at 5-over 221 (69-77-75) and tied for 41st among the 11-team field. He has a team best scoring average of 71.0 and low rounds of 68 in the first and second rounds at the Vandal Fall Classic.

Sinclair leads the WCC in September with 28 points, 11 goals, 6 assists and 6 game-winning goals. She is a two-time WCC Player of the Week (9-6, 9-27), and two-time Soccer America Team of the Week selection (9-8, 9-28). Sinclair was the Nike Portland Invitational Most Outstanding Offensive Player after tallying three goals in wins over Weber State and UAB. She also made the UConn Adidas Classic all-tournament team after notching two goals and two assists in wins over UConn and Harvard. She had four multi-goal games for the month, and five game-winners in a six-game span. The Burnaby, B.C. native also had a six-game goal scoring streak and seven-game point streak during the month. She recently moved into third-place on Portland's career scoring list, with 137 points and eclipsed the 50 career-goals plateau with a strike in UP's season-opening, 2-1 win vs. Ohio State. Currently, Sinclair is number 3 on the UP goals scored charts with 60.
