WOMEN'S SOCCER - Christine Sinclair, Portland
Portland junior All-American Christine Sinclair turned in a dominating first month of the season, leading the Pilots to an 8-2 start. The Burnaby, B.C. native led the conference in every major statistical category, topping the list in goals scored (11), assists (6), points (28), and game-winning goals (6). Sinclair also enjoyed four multi-goal matches and her 11 goals on the season propelled her over the 60 career goals scored plateau, becoming just the fifth player in WCC history to reach that mark. Sinclair moved into third place on Portland's career scoring list with 137 points. For her efforts, Sinclair was named WCC Player of the Week twice (9/6, 9/27) and was twice selected to the Soccer America National Team of the Week (9/8, 9/28).
Men's Soccer - Aaron Chandler, USF and Medhi Ballouchy, SCU
Aaron Chandler has led USF to a 5-1-0 start, its best since the 1991 season. The sophomore from Riverside, CA leads the WCC in scoring with 13 points and goals with six. Chandler has scored six of the Dons' 12 goals this season. Chandler was named the WCC Player of the Week on September 20 for his efforts during the week of Sept. 13-19. During that span, Chandler scored four of the Dons' five goals on the week, including the game-winning goal versus San Jose State. Medhi Ballouchy, a sophomore as well, leads a 7-1-0 Santa Clara squad in scoring with 10 points and is tied for the WCC lead in assists with four. Ballouchy, a transfer from Creighton, places third in the conference in goals with three and has picked up tournament MVP honors twice this season. The Casa Blanca, Morocco native was named the WCC Player of the Week on September 6 and scored the game-winner in the Broncos' win at then-No. 5 Stanford.
WOMEN'S GOLF - Rachel Kyono, Pepperdine
Pepperdine's Rachel Kyono shot rounds of 73-72-71 for a 3-under par score of 216 at the Branch Law/Dick McGuire Invitational, leading the Waves to a third place finish. Led by Kyono's final round 71, the Waves were one of only two teams to shoot under par in the final round. The senior from Lawai, HI did not shoot an above-par round at the tournament en route to tying for fourth place. Kyono has a 72.00 stroke average after her opening tournament.
MEN'S GOLF - Michael Putnam, Pepperdine
Pepperdine's Michael Putnam has posted a pair of Top 15 finishes in two loaded tournaments to open the season. The senior tied for 15th at the Gold Rush California Collegiate Showcase and tied for fifth at the NCAA Preview Tournament. The NCAA Preview included 13 teams that are currently ranked in Golfweek's Top 15 as well as 10 teams that competed in last year's NCAA Championships, while the Gold Rush California Collegiate Showcase included over 30 teams from the Golden State. Putnum recorded rounds of 70-71-69 for 210 at the NCAA Preview and a 2-under par for a 214 at the Gold Rush.
VOLLEYBALL -Annalisa Muratore, Santa Clara
The freshman middle blocker has been a huge offensive and defensive presence on the court for the Broncos this season. Muratore leads the WCC and ranks second nationally in hitting percentage at a .470 clip, recording 131 kills with only 23 errors in 230 attempts. She also leads the WCC and ranks 11th nationally in blocks per game with 1.59. Muratore has recorded 8 solo and 54 assist blocks for a total of 62. The freshman recorded a double-double in her collegiate debut against Sacramento State with 14 kills and 11 blocks. Muratore earned MVP honors at the TCU adidas Invitational after leading Santa Clara to a perfect 3-0 record. She totaled 43 kills in nine games for a 4.78 per game average and committed only three errors in 60 attempts for a staggering .667 hitting percentage at the tournament. Muratore also tallied 18 total blocks (4 solo, 14 assist) for a 2.00 per game average and three digs. The performance earned Muratore the WCC Player of the Week award. Santa Clara was 9-2 in September with a No. 13 national ranking.
